Leon Frank Sylvers III is an American singer, composer, disc jockey, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist who was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on March 7, 1953.

He belonged to the family group The Sylvers, and because to his connection to Dick Griffey’s SOLAR Records in the late 1970s and early 1980s, he rose to prominence as one of black music’s most successful producers. He has written and produced tracks that J Dilla, Dr. Dre, and Madlib have sampled.

Edmund Theodore Sylvers was an American singer-songwriter, actor, and musician who lived from January 25, 1957, to March 11, 2004. The American family disco/soul vocal group The Sylvers, which enjoyed commercial success with songs like “Boogie Fever” in the middle to late 1970s, was best known for having Sylvers as its lead singer.

From 1979 through January 1983, Sylvers was romantically involved with singer Freda Payne, who was 15 years his senior. Jeremy Sylvers, an actor most recognized for his work in the horror movie Child’s Play 3, is one of Sylvers’ eleven children. Edmund Sylvers passed away at the age of 47 on March 11, 2004, in a hospital in Virginia after a ten-month battle with lung cancer.
